Hosted by the Community Sauna Network. Becky Pelkonen presents the Charter.
The first UK and Ireland-wide gathering of the Community Sauna Network. Operators come together to connect, learn, talk through shared issues and celebrate what we are building together. Becky will present the Charter in the UK for the first time.
The big four topics
Social prescribing: sauna as medicine, in practice
Accessibility: opening our doors to everyone
Water hygiene and regulations: keeping it clean, safe and compliant
Planning, licensing and architecture: from idea to open doors
Speakers include
Polly Wilson, Community Sauna Baths. Led the work to get sauna recognised in the NHS social prescribing scheme. She will share how to launch a programme like this and what it has achieved, then host a smaller workshop.
Will Behenna, Beach Access Project. Founder of the Beach Access Project, now leading the conversation on making sauna accessible to people with disabilities and medical or mental health conditions.
Mike Shuff, Chair of PWTAG. Chairs the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group, which sets the UK standard for pool water treatment. 30+ years in wet leisure. The person to ask about plunge pools, water safety and sauna regulation.
Becky Pelkonen, Sauna for All. Presenting the Charter, a global movement to keep sauna safe, accessible, culturally stewarded and a common good as the industry grows.
Planning panel
Planning is one of the biggest hurdles to opening and growing a sauna. A panel of council, planning consultant and architect voices will cover every angle of an application.
Time to connect
Small-group workshops run between talks, on topics including scaling, year one successes, site operations, sauna maintenance, sauna events, sauna research and sauna building. The day closes with an evening of sauna and Aufguss.
Who should come: Community sauna operators across the UK and Ireland, and people planning to open one.
· 6:30 pm Sydney time (AEDT) · Online · About 60 minutes
